Glencroft Retirement Community in Glendale is hosting the first Elder Law Day seminar sponsored by AZ Department of Economic Security, Division of Aging and Adult Services. I just met Jennifer Ramirez, Legal Services Developer for the state office, who said this was their first time trying the event and whether it was repeated depended on turnout and feedback. Several vendors in an exhibit hall downstairs which hasn’t opened quite yet. Had I known I would have had a booth to share Medicare plans info, final expense coverage material and identity theft protection and restoration tips from LegalShield. Next year for sure, if this gets repeated.
Topics to be presented today:
Letters to Your Loved Ones, by Kenney Hegland, Uof A law professor
Taking the Boring out of Estate Planning, Family Caregiver Support, a Final Affairs talk by Tisha Diffie, owner of After the Fact.
Cathy Shiroda, chair of ElderFriends board of directors is going to talk about prevention of elder abuse, and AZ Attorney General’s Office community and outreach specialist Debra Boehlke will share the Top Consumer Scams with the audience. (and I will share them with you!)
Boehlke will also discuss senior abuse, as part of her role on the Attorney General’s Taskforce Against Senior Abuse.
There are door prizes galore today at this free seminar, that include a flat screen TV, a Kindle, golf for two at Sun City Country Club, a complimentary living trust, and a $50 gift card to Harkins Theaters..
Vendors include Benevilla Adult Day Program, Logalicy, Global Computer Tutor, Hospice of Arizona, Re/Max Professionals, Southwest Fair Housing Council, Society for Financial Awareness, WJ Bradley Home Mortgage LLC and several others.
I should mention that I learned about this event on Meetup, where the Senior Health Associates listed it as a group outing. Have you joined Meetup yet? You really should!
